FROM THE FIRST LESSON

Five squares.
One place to start.

A clue tells you the length of a continuous shaded block. In a row with five squares, where can a block of five fit?

Shade only squares you know must be filled. Cross squares you know must be empty. Leave uncertain squares blank.

See the certain move

Shade all five squares. The block fills the row completely, so it has only one possible position.

In the first lesson, this is row 3. Each shaded square also belongs to a column. Check those column clues next: a new mark in one direction can help you solve the other.

The sample shows the complete route, including why each remaining mark is certain.

SEE WHY A MARK BELONGS

Follow the reasoning
as the picture grows.

The worked lessons show intermediate grids alongside the moves that produce them. Begin with a full row, then use the crossing columns to decide what follows.

Later lessons introduce useful gaps, overlapping blocks and comparisons between possible positions. The full book includes 5x5, 10x10 and 15x15 worked examples.

Try a few marks before reading, or follow the whole route. More than one solving order can be valid.
